From its 1847 settlement to today's booming development, Farmington marks 125 years of incorporation with year-long celebrations and a look at what's ahead.
Farmington, Utah is pulling out all the stops in 2026 as the city celebrates 125 years since its official incorporation in 1901. What started as a small agricultural settlement called North Cottonwood has transformed into one of the Wasatch Front's most desirable communities, with a population that has more than doubled since 2000.
Mayor and city council members have planned a series of events throughout the year, culminating in an expanded Festival Days celebration in July. The anniversary comes at a pivotal moment for the city — with Western Sports Park drawing national events, Station Park continuing to expand, and new parks and retail developments reshaping the landscape.
"Farmington has always been about community," said longtime resident and local historian Mark Jensen. "We've managed to grow without losing what makes this place special — the mountain views, the small-town feel, the neighbors who actually know each other."
The city's growth trajectory shows no signs of slowing. With Farmington Crossings bringing Academy Sports and Burlington in 2027, two major new parks opening this summer, and continued residential development, the next 125 years look just as promising as the first.
